Design
Implementing design guidelines set by industry bodies.
A proper design will help ensure that the cabling system will be
application independent, last more than 10 years, and reduce long term operation costs.
The design process: The design process can be
divided into segments, according the four Major components of a structured cabling system:
By focusing on the requirements at the work area first the other
components of the structured cabling system will combine to serve your requirements:
Start at the work area to define your needs are i.e. the active voice
and data network types, the necessary work area components and the horizontal media can be
selected.
Then the requirements for the telecommunications closet or area i.e.
network equipment, and the horizontal and backbone connecting hardware are chosen. The
cabinet, rack or closet is also dependent on the number of work areas to be served.
The horizontal and backbone distribution methods and requirements are
addressed.
It is a fact that that while your structured cabling system may account
for as little as 5% of your total network investment it is critical to the life of your
network and its performance.
