Any debate about AIT's superiority over competitive tape technologies should effectively disappear with the introduction of AIT-3. As the storage needs of most businesses continue to expand exponentially, only AIT-3 can offer a capacity to match in a 3.5-inch drive. Key technological advances have been incorporated to offer 100GB of native storage, as well as improving reliability and enabling a file access speed that is quicker than any other tape on the market. It makes AIT-3 the smallest, fastest and most reliable tape technology in its class. A further improvement has been made with Sony's innovative Remote-Memory-In-Cassette (R-MIC) drive interface system. Allowing users to read tape contents without even loading the tape, it offers huge potential for improvements in the library automation environment. Added to which, AIT-3 drives are fully read and write compatible with AIT-2 and AIT-1 media, with a proven roadmap committed to doubling tape capacity with every generation. Meaning your business can never outgrow your backup technology, as long as it's AIT.
The AIT Library 162 tape library, with a unique 16-slot internal carousel configuration, holds up to 2.08 TB of data for enterprise-level storage requirements. With an MTBF of greater than 300, 000 Power On Hours (100% duty cycle) and greater than 1, 000, 000 cycles MCBF, the Sony AIT Library 162 can provide years of trouble-free operation. With 1 AIT-1 tape drive, the AIT Library 162 can deliver data transfer rates of up to 74.9 GB per hour (2.6: 1 compression) to meet your storage needs and decrease your date backup window. A second, hot swappable, drive can be added on with an easy to install optional drive sled unit. With a very low profile 2U height, the AIT Library 162 delivers industry-leading storage density per cubic foot, providing mass storage in a compact, easy-to-use, system.
Autoloaders provide economical storage by lowering the cost per megabyte of data stored on a system. Since multiple tapes can be stored in a single autoloader, the cost per megabyte is amortized over the cost of the autoloader and the media contained in it. The more cartridges used in the autoloader based on the maximum capacity, the lower cost per megabyte for the total solution. Sony's Advanced Intelligent Tape (AIT) technology is the latest in a long line of innovative tape solutions developed and brought to market by Sony. Sony's AIT autoloaders are setting new standards for reliability, capacity and performance in today's most demanding environments.
